Miami Hurricanes baseball breaks seven game losing streak

Miami lost a wild game in the first game of the series on Friday night. After the teams went back and forth with the lead throughout the game they went to extra innings tied at three. Both teams scored in the 11th before the Tar Heels played four in the 12th to take an 8-4 lead. They closed out the victory in the bottom of the inning.

Michael Mediavilla continued to struggle for the Hurricanes. He gave up five runs in 2.1 innings to take the loss. Jeb Bargfeldt had a mediocre start for Miami. He allowed three runs in 6.1 innings. Right fielder Gabe Rivera led the Miami hitters with three hits in four at-bats and an RBI.

Hurricane batters struggled all weekend making contact. They struck out 36 times in 26 innings.

North Carolina reliever Josh Hiatt dominated Miami hitters on Friday night. He struck out six and allowed two hits and an unearned run in four innings to get the win.

Cooper Criswell had an even more dominant performance out of the pen for UNC on Saturday night. He went 5.2 innings allowing one earned run with three hits, no walks and 13 strikeouts to get the win.

Zamora and Rivera were the hitting stars on Saturday as well. Zamora went four for four from the leadoff spot with two runs scored, two RBIs and a home run. Rivera was two for four with a run scored, two RBIs and a home run.
