The buzz of Miami Hurricanes quarterback N’Kosi Perry has been there since he arrived on campus last summer. The majority of the fan base wanted Perry to be the starting quarterback last fall.

Before that happens his position coach Jon Richt said they need Perry to be more of a passer than an athlete. Perry was a four-star recruit in the Miami Hurricanes class of 2017.

He was redshirted last season as a Freshman. That allowed Perry to put on some weight and gain a better grasp of the offense. Through the first few weeks of spring practice starter, Malik Rosier has continued his to show why he led Miami to a 10-3 record and ACC Coastal Division championship last fall.

Rosier still has room to improve. The coaching staff needs him to show work on his accuracy and leadership skills.

Perry needs to work on those and to become more refined as a passer. He has exceptional athleticism, speed and a live arm, but needs to harness all of those before he is ready to assume the mantle from Rosier as the starting quarterback.

That could have some time this season or it could be at the beginning of the 2019 season after Rosier graduates a year from now. Unlike last season there is another four-star quarterback on campus to challenge Perry and Rosier. Freshman Jarren Williams enrolled at Miami in January.
