Williams could be a candidate to Redshirt this season with Perry and fellow redshirt Freshman Cade Weldon backing up Rosier. Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt was Weldon’s father Casey’s position coach at Florida State when he finished runner-up in the Heisman Trophy in 1991.

Ironically Richt’s son Jon is now the Miami quarterback coach. He spoke to the Palm Beach Post about Perry’s progress this Spring and what he needs to work on.

"“He’s starting to understand what the defense is doing and maybe making some adjustments to get us in a better play,…He’s got to learn to be confident in the plays he’s making. … He’s learning these things, but he’s thinking a lot. We want him to relax and play ball.”"

Perry will put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses once he gets on the field. Jon Richt spoke about how Perry plays when he gets out of the pocket.

"“He can make it a little bit nerve-wracking for a defensive coach, because he can take off and run for 20 or 25 like he did in the scrimmage, or sit back there and rip the ball 50 yards downfield on the run…He’s a talented guy when he’s on the move.”"

Miami’s practice had two marquee visitors on Tuesday. Former Hurricanes safety Ed Reed a star on the 2001 National Championship was there. The other visitor was Desmond Howard. Howard lives in Miami and was the player who finished ahead of Casey Weldon in the 1991 Heisman Trophy race.
