The Miami Hurricanes were fortunate to be able to promote from within for the new positional coach. Patke knows the players and knows what the expectations are from Richt and Diaz. He got a lot of positive feedback from the players when he was hired.

"“It was awesome to receive all the texts from the players, because that’s who you do it for, it’s the guys…When they announced it – I kind of knew already – but when they announced it, that’s when all the texts and all the love that the guys gave me just meant that I’m in the right place and working with the right guys. They are pumped just to be around good coaches and I guess that’s saying something about myself, and it’s good to be around great players, so I’m pleased to be working with those guys as linebackers.”"

Richt continues to hire an excellent staff. Patke is a good addition. He has already established a great rapport with the rest of the Miami Hurricanes football staff and players.

Having an outside linebackers coach with the newly created striker position also takes some pressure off of Diaz who previously had been coaching the entire linebacking core.

With their third straight outstanding recruiting class the talent that Patke and new Defensive Line Coach Jess Simpson have to work with should make their transitions and new jobs a smooth one.
