He leads the Clemson starters in batting and homeruns. Catcher Chris Williams leads Clemson with 32 RBIs. Beer was selected by Baseball America as the National Preseason Player of the Year and a first team All-American in the outfield.

Williams was selected as a second-team preseason All-American. Beer has not quite lived up to his selections. As a team Clemson has exceeded their preseason ranking of 15th in the country.
