The meeting this weekend is the first time the teams are playing since 2016. Miami’s fortunes have changed drastically in those two years. The Hurricanes advanced to the College World Series as the number three National Seed that season.

They were swept out of Omaha by Arizona and California-Santa Barbara in the 2016 CWS. That seems to have placed a virtual curse on Jim Morris. The Hurricanes are 34-38 since winning the Super Regional over Boston College in 2016.

Miami swept the series in 2016 in Coral Gables. They won a pair of one run games the first two nights. The Hurricanes earned the sweep with a 10-5 victory in game three. Miami also swept their last series against Clemson on the road in 2014.

"Pitching Matchups: Miami: Friday: SR LHP Jeb Bargfeldt (2-3, 3.71 ERA) Saturday: SO RHP Evan McKendry (4-4, 4.14 ERA) Sunday: JR RHP Andrew Cabezas (3-3, 4.30 ERA) Clemson: Friday: SO LHP Jacob Hennessy (3-2, 2.42 ERA) Saturday: JR RHP Brooks Crawford (3-1, 2.82 ERA) Sunday: R-SO LHP Jake Higginbotham (4-1, 4.05 ERA)"

Clemson has good balance between pitching and hitting. Their pitching staff enters the weekend 21st in the country with a 3.20 ERA. The Hurricanes staff had been among the leaders earlier in the season. They have fallen in ACC play. They now rank 70th nationally with a 3.78 earned run average.

Bargfeldt and McKendry have struggled their last few outings. Miami needs them to get back on track if they are going to have a chance to upset the Tigers this weekend.
