Miami Hurricanes win series at Clemson behind historic Game 1 comeback
Behind a historic comeback in the opening game of the series, the Miami Hurricanes won two out of three on the road at Clemson this weekend. The Hurricanes scored eight runs in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings.
Entering the ninth inning with facing an 11-3 deficit the Miami Hurricanes rallied with eight runs then added one in the tenth in the historic comeback. There is something about comebacks in a legendary Miami Coach’s final season.
It was Miami’s biggest comeback since they scored ten runs in the ninth to defeat Tampa in 1992. That game also ended with a 12-11 victory.
Miami earned the series win with a 6-1 victory in game one on Saturday. Evan McKendry pitched a complete game in the victory. The Hurricanes win was being played simultaneously with the Clemson Spring football game.
Clemson avoided a sweep with a victory in Saturday’s game two. The Tigers flipped the switch on Miami’s eight-run ninth on Friday night.
Clemson had a seven-run fifth inning in Saturday’s nightcap. What had originally been scheduled as Friday-Sunday series was moved up a day because of impending rain in South Carolina.
The Hurricanes got on the board first on Friday night with a two-run first inning. The Tigers took a 4-2 lead behind a Chris Williams grand-slam.
They added two more in the bottom of the second after Miami added a single run in the top of the inning. The game would stay that way until Clemson scored five in the bottom of the eighth to seemingly break the game open.
