In his weekly appearance on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt said that Freshman Defensive End Greg Rousseau is the biggest surprise of the Spring.

Rousseau has dominated the Miami Hurricanes offensive line in the two scrimmages this Spring. Through two scrimmages this Spring, Rousseau has produced seven sacks. In Saturday’s Spring game Rousseau had 5.5 tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks.

Rousseau is part of a deep Hurricanes defensive end group. He joins returnees Joe and Demetrius Jackson, Jonathan Garvin and Scott Patchan on the edges. Patchan moved back to defensive end from tight end where he played last season.

Rousseau was a three-star player coming out of high school. Of the players currently enrolled at Miami in the Class of 2018, he is the lowest rated. Rousseau was somehow just the 27th ranked defensive end in this year’s class. He is likely to be much higher than that when he decides to turn pro.

Richt spoke to Rose about Rousseau’s potential. The leader of the Miami Football program did not hesitate when asked which player was the biggest surprise this spring.

Richt knew Rousseau could be special someday. Even he was surprised how quickly he is coming along during his first semester in college. Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post transcribed the interview.
