Redshirt Freshman quarterback N’Kosi Perry and true Freshman quarterback Jarren Williams need to learn how to lead at the same time they are learning the offense according to Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt.

Richt spoke about how his prized Miami Hurricanes Freshmen quarterbacks are progressing during his weekly appearance on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM on Monday Morning.

While implying that Rosier is the frontrunner to remain the starter at quarterback for the 2018 season, Richt said that Rosier will not be handed the position.

Rosier struggles during Miami’s season-ending three-game losing streak are well documented. He also was a major factor in the Hurricanes winning 10 straight games to begin the season. Rosier has shown his toughness, physically, mentally and emotionally in 14 career starts, all but one of them last season.

Rosier was nine of 14 for 105 yards in Saturday’s Spring game. It was Miami’s second scrimmage of the Spring. The Hurricanes have their final scrimmage and conclude Spring Practice on Saturday. That will only be open to family and football alums.

If Rosier continues what he is doing in Spring Practice he is likely to remain the starting quarterback. During Saturday’s broadcast of the Spring game, Miami Hurricanes announcers Joe Zagacki and Don Bailey Jr. said they like Rosier’s toughness and the fact Rosier will be entering his fifth year with the team this fall.

Richt told Rose that Rosier will not be handed the position and discussed Rosier’s performance on Saturday.

"“We’re still competing…We’re not going to go out there and just hand it over to Malik and say, You’ve got it no matter what happens…He was mostly accurate,” Richt said of Rosier. “He took advantage of most every chance he got.”"

Perry and Williams both showed the ability to make plays, but still need to learn how to command a huddle.  Learning the offense and how to be a leader at the same time is a lot to expect from a Freshman Quarterback.
