In his wrap up of the Quarterbacks growth during Spring Practice, Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt likened incumbent quarterback Malik Rosier’s leadership skills to Florida State’s Heisman Trophy Winning quarterback Charlie Ward.

Ward won the 1993 Heisman Trophy with Mark Richt as his Quarterback Coach. Richt would later be promoted to Offensive Coordinator at Florida State. Mark Richt spent 15 years in two different stints on the Seminoles coaching staff.

Rosier has the requisite leadership skills and grasp of the offense to be one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC. He needs to significantly improve his accuracy to reach that level.

This will be Rosier’s third year in Mark Richt’s offense and his second as a starter. It will also be Rosier’s fifth year in college. Those are all attributes that should help him overcome a poor finish to the 2017 season.

Rosier has often faced unwarranted criticism throughout the offseason. Like a Head Coach, the quarterback always gets too much of the credit and too much blame. In Rosier’s case, its been more of the latter than the former.

Miami didn’t have its three best players on offense at the end of last season. The offensive line struggles in the final three games also contributed to the losing streak.

As a leader, Rosier showed his ability to stay calm when his team faced adversity and to thrive in late-game pressure. Richt spoke about Rosier’s leadership skills earlier this week.
