As Canes Warning predicated in the Miami Hurricanes series preview against Pittsburgh offense was at a premium this weekend. Pittsburgh won two out of the three games in the series by outscoring Miami 5-4.

The Panthers advantage was over three games. They didn’t win one game 5-4. The lack of an offense has been the Miami Hurricanes thorn over the past two seasons.

Miami couldn’t get anything going in the first two games of the series. The Miami offense was anemic against one of the ACC’s worst pitchers in game one. They managed just one run on three hits in seven innings against Pittsburgh starter Dan Hammer. Hammer was 2-2 with a 9.67 ERA entering Friday night’s game.

Against the ACC’s tenth-ranked pitching staff in batting average against Miami was only able to get 13 hits this weekend. Even with the win in Saturday’s second game, Miami was only able to scratch three runs. They wasted good performances on the mound from Jeb Bargfeldt and Evan McKendry in the final game of the series to avoid a sweep.

These are the kind of series that have been concerning the past two seasons for Jim Morris’ team. The series was changed from a Friday to Sunday series to Friday night and a Saturday doubleheader. The Sunday game was moved up because of rain forecasted for Coral Gables on Sunday.
