Speaking to reporters earlier this week about the Spring Game, Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt said that the tempo and style that his offense plays at will be dictated by how many players play tough, physical and consistent.

A lot of that offensively starts with the Miami Hurricanes quarterback. Richt knows he is going to get tough and physical play from Malik Rosier every time out at quarterback. Rosier needs to be more consistent this season to garner more trust.

Rosier had a combined 564 rushing and passing attempts last season. That compared to just 458 from 2016 Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback Brad Kaaya.

The biggest difference came in their rushing attempts. Rosier had 131 in 2017, compared to Kaaya’s 37 in 2016. Rosier has shown the requisite toughness and physicality needed at the position.

Miami has a lot of depth and talent at the skill position on offense. They are going to need someone to step up to replace the losses of wide receiver Braxton Berrios, tight end Chris Herndon IV and running back Mark Walton.

Several players last season flashed the toughness and physicality to compete on the collegiate level. With any 18-23-year-old Richt would like to see more consistency throughout the roster. If he receives that Miami might play a more uptempo offense this fall. Without it, the Canes might play slower and rely on the defense.

"“Offensively, when we don’t self-destruct and everyone does what they are supposed to do, we actually had good success on those plays…When you’re playing 22 guys, 33 guys, that’s going to happen. You’ll have some missed assignments, and you’ve got some new guys."
