12  Warren Sapp DT Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1995

Sapp played at Miami in between the great title teams of the 1980s and 1990s and the dominant National Championship contenders of the early 2000s. If not for some legal troubles Sapp would likely have been picked higher in the draft.

Sapp’s fall was fortuitous for the Buccaneers. Before Sapp arrived in Tampa, the Buccaneers endured 13 straight losing seasons. In 19 years as a franchise before drafting Sapp, the Bucs had only two winning seasons.

Sapp played his rookie season under Sam Wyche. The fortunes of the Buccaneers changed when they hired then Minnesota Vikings Defensive Coordinator Tony Dungy.

After ranking as the worst scoring defense in Dungy’s first season, the Bucs gradually moved up in the rankings each season. Sapp was a major reason why. He had three double-digit seasons in sacks. That’s an impressive feat for a defensive tackle.

Sapp finished his NFL career with 96.5 sacks. That’s 38th in NFL history. It’s the most among players that solely played on the interior of the defensive line.

Sapp finished his NFL Career with seven Pro-Bowl appearances, four first-team All-Pro selections and spots on the 1990s All-NFL second team and 2000s first team.
