14 Jim Kelly

Kelly was a part of the legendary 1983 NFL QB Draft class that included fellow Hall of Famers John Elway and Dan Marino. If not for the foresight of the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff, Kelly might never have become one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL History.

He was recruited by his home state University, Penn State as a linebacker. Incredibly, like Marino, Kelly grew up in the Pittsburgh area. He was the first great quarterback at Miami in the modern era of Hurricanes football.

  • Kelly proceeded Bernie Kosar, Vinny Testaverde, Steve Walsh, Craig Erickson and Gino Torretta as a Miami quarterback. He set the foundation for quarterback U.

Kelly played two seasons in the USFL before joining the Bills for the 1986 season. He put up gaudy numbers with the Houston Gamblers under Head Coach Mouse Davis. In two seasons with the Gamblers, Kelly threw for 9,836 yards and 83 touchdowns. Kelly led the league in passing yards and touchdowns in each of his seasons.

The league would eventually fold following the 1985 season. Kelly then joined the Bills becoming part of a dynasty. Although they never won a Super Bowl, the Bills four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990-93 are still an NFL record.

Like the three players ranked ahead of Kelly, he eventually became a Hall of Famer. He was inducted into Canton in 2002.
