30 Reggie Wayne WR Indianapolis Colts 2001

Wayne was a part of the greatest Miami Hurricanes receiving tandem in program history. Wayne finished his Miami career first in receptions, second in receiving yards and fourth in receiving touchdowns. Santana Moss who played with Wayne all four years at the U is the program leader in receiving yards.

They formed a nearly unstoppable tandem. Wayne and Moss helped laid the groundwork for the Miami Hurricanes dominant 2001 National Championship team.

  • Wayne had ten touchdown receptions as a Senior in 2000. The Hurricanes finished second in the nation at the conclusion of that season. Only a road loss at Washington kept Miami out of the BCS National Championship game.

Wayne bucked the Miami Hurricanes stereotype. He was a more reserved lunch pail type player that let his performance on the field do the talking.

In 1997, Wayne broke Michael Irvin’s Miami Freshman reception record with 48. He was named a Freshman All-American by the Sporting News and was named second-team All Big East.

In the NFL Wayne would form a similar tandem that he had with Moss in College. Playing with Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison at wide receiver and future Hall of Famer Payton Manning at quarterback and another former Miami Hurricane Edgerrin James at running back the Colts had the most prolific offense in NFL History.

With Randy Moss‘ induction this summer there were be only two sets of receivers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame that played together. John Stallworth and Lynn Swann of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Moss and Cris Carter of the Minnesota Vikings are the only tandems. If and when Wayne gets inducted he and Harrison would be the third.
