His rankings are based more on where the player will be selected, not necessarily ranking them in order of who he thinks the best players will are.

Tampa Bay would be a great fit for Walton. The Buccaneers released veteran starter Doug Martin in February. That leaves journeymen Jaquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber as the primary ball carriers going into the draft. If Walton gets selected by the Bucs he could become the favorite to start.

Peter Schrager of NFL.Com projected a three round mock draft. Walton is the only Miami Hurricanes player he anticipates being taken by the end of the third round. He has Walton being selected 86th overall by the Carolina Panthers.

Walton would have a tough time getting on the field with the Panthers. They have incumbent starter Jonathan Stewart and last season’s first-round pick Christian McCaffrey on their roster.

Walton surprisingly came in fifth among the Miami players graded on NFL.Com after the combine. He received a grade of 5.47 from the league’s flagship website. Walton faces the tough prospect of entering the draft coming off of a season-ending injury just four games in. This is also a deep year for running backs in the draft.
