He had 403 yards rushing and 91 receiving in Miami’s season opening victories over Bethune-Cookman, Toledo and Duke. Walton is more than just his talent. He is what is often referred to as a “football player”. He’s tough and always plays hard

according

to Miami Head Coach Mark Richt.

"“A machine. He loves the game..He loves his teammates, he loves the grind of practice, he loves the grind of the strength and conditioning. He just embraces every bit of football. He’s a super fun guy to coach.”"

Walton’s decision to enter the draft a year early has been doubted. He has a 14-month-old daughter and siblings to support. Walton’s mother passed away in February 2017 two weeks after the birth of his daughter.

ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper confirmed Walton’s fall was related to the injury.

"“A second round talent…He looked like a guaranteed third-round pick and then he had the ankle injury. Go back to two years ago, 2016, he was outstanding in a lot of areas. He can catch, he runs inside, he can bounce it to the outside.”"

Kiper’s ESPN colleague Todd McShay had Walton projected primarily as a backup in his career. Walton has landed it what seems like a perfect situation for him. He should have a good chance to earn a lot of carries as a rookie. Bernard and Mixon have both had their struggles in the NFL.
