Mark Richt says you better come ready to compete with Miami Football
During an appearance on the Joe Rose morning show on WQAM on Tuesday Miami Football Head Coach Mark Richt said you better come ready to compete to be a part of his program.
Richt was responding to a question by Rose about the play of freshman Greg Rousseau this spring. Rosseau has been a dominant force in Miami football spring practices. The lanky freshman had nine sacks in three spring scrimmages.
Richt has also been impressed by the play of rising sophomore defensive end Jonathan Garvin. He singled out Garvin and Rousseau as examples of players who have excelled despite being three-star players coming out of high school.
When talking about Garvin’s production as a Freshman, Richt gave an extremely thinly veiled reference to departed defensive end D.J. Johnson about how Garvin beat him out for playing time.
"“Garvin same thing from a year ago. One guy left and went back home because Garvin played more than he did.”"
Garvin was a force at times for the Hurricanes last season. As a defensive end he had to battle for playing time behind Seniors Trent Harris and third-round NFL Draft pick Chad Thomas and 2018’s likely starters the Jackson two, Joe and Demetrius.
In the limited playing him he had during his Freshman season Garvin had nine tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. The fumble recoveries tied for the team lead with Miami Football MVP Jaquan Johnson.
