Dominant performances, eye-popping stats and recruits with four or five stars in front of their names are what usually garner the most attention from the fans and media. Which Miami Hurricanes are flying under the radar and could be a factor in 2018?
Mark Richt has done an incredible job accruing talent through his first three recruiting classes. The Miami Hurricanes have risen from 22nd with Richt’s first recruiting Class in 2016 to 12th in 2017 and eighth with the most recent class.
Fans often look at the players that have made a splash during the Spring or the highly touted incoming Freshmen as the players who will make an impact in the program.
Often forgotten are the players who have put in the hard work with Richt and his coaching staff to become reliable upperclassmen who have patiently awaited their turn for significant playing time.
Braxton Berrios and Christopher Herndon IV are perfect examples of that. They led the Hurricanes in receiving in all three main categories in as Seniors in 2017. Berrios topped Richt’s passing game in receptions, yards and touchdowns. Herndon was second in all three receiving categories.
There will be opportunities at several positions for a player to step up and make an impact like Berrios and Herndon did in 2017. While fans sing the praises of the players getting the attention, the coaching staff diligently works with the players that have been on the roster for a few years and the Freshman who arrived early.
Several Miami Hurricanes who have not been talked about much throughout Spring Practice could be in line for significant playing time this fall.
