Miami Hurricanes five biggest sleepers for 2018 season
Junior Wide Receiver Lawrence Cager
The wide receiver core of the Miami Hurricanes is the deepest and strongest position n the team. The return of Ahmmon Richards from an injury-riddled 2017, the maturation of sophomores Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley and the incredible Freshmen group led by Brian Hightower have grabbed most of the attention. Lost in the shuffle have been the upperclassmen in addition to Richards.
Lawrence Cager was a four-star recruit in 2015. His size at 6’5 is ideal on the outside. Cager showed flashes of brilliance last season. He finished with four receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Orange Bowl loss to Wisconsin. He finished 2017 with 16 receptions for 237 yards and three touchdowns.
Although Hightower was spectacular in the Spring Game with four receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns, he will have a battle from Cager to earn the starting nod. In the current depth the top three receivers in the Hurricanes rotation are likely Cager, Richards and Thomas.
Cager had a tough time last season returning from a torn ACL he suffered in summer training camp 2016. He sat out that entire season rehabilitating the knee. It’s usually The season after returning that a player is at full strength.
