Miami Hurricanes five biggest sleepers for 2018 season
Sophomore safety Amari Carter
Carter prepares for the 2018 season as the third safety on the Miami Hurricanes depth chart. He is pushing incumbent Senior starter Sheldrick Redwine at strong safety to become the starter, or as Miami Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz said, 1A or 1B.
Carter finished his Freshman season with 26 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. Carter’s best game was against Virginia when he finished with four tackles.
The door could be open to provide Carter a chance to earn the starting strong safety spot. Redwine struggled at the end of 2017. Miami needs a player who can step in immediately and produce. They said, he would be able to play next to the 2017 Miami MVP Jaquan Johnson and learn the position.

Carter is a hard hitter who was a four-star recruit from Palm Beach Gardens. He is another player in Richt and Diaz’s attempt to rebuild the State of Miami. Carter will also have a challenge from a strong group of incoming Freshmen in the secondary. Gurvan Hall is the only true safety in the Freshman group of defensive backs.

Hall was playing well this Spring until he suffered an injury sidelining him until summer camp. Anyone can be switched at any time though. Redwine did not become a safety until Spring 2017 ahead of his Junior year.
