Miami Hurricanes 8th in consensus 2018 post Spring CFB Rankings
It was a bit of a mix from ESPN. If you just read their preview you might get a different idea from their actual ranking.
When mentioning the defensive line ESPN implies that Miami doesn’t have the players to replace Chad Thomas, RJ McIntosh, Kendrick Norton and DJ Johnson who transferred to Oregon. When discussing this year’s defensive line ESPN said:
"“The Hurricanes are banking on former Florida player Gerald Willis who missed last season because of off the field issues and Demetrius Jackson who is coming back from knee surgery”"
Oddly there was no mention of Joe Jackson or Jonathan Garvin. Mark Richt discussed defensive ends Garvin and Freshman Greg Rousseau earlier week. When talking about Garvin without mentioning names he strongly implied that Garvin beat out Johnson last year.
Joe Jackson is projected as an early entrant and first round pick in 2019. Garvin could have a breakout year and Rousseau has been unstoppable this spring. He had nine sacks in three scrimmages against the second string offensive line.
ESPN also mentioned the loss of former mentioned the loss of former defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski who left for Alabama. Miami has found a good replacement in Jess Simpson.
