Walkoff wins on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon powered the Miami Hurricanes to a three-game sweep of Bethune-Cookman in their series in Coral Gables this weekend.

The Miami Hurricanes bats came alive in the last two games.  The Hurricanes bats have been inconsistent throughout the season. That lack of hitting has been the biggest reason for Miami’s downfall over the past two seasons.

Facing a mediocre and sub .500 Wildcats was the cure the Miami Hurricanes needed for the bats to wake up. Miami won 4-2 in game one on Friday, 8-7 with a two-run ninth inning on Saturday night and scored again in the ninth for a 12-11 victory to complete the sweep on Sunday.

Miami earned the victory on Friday behind a good performance from Jeb Bargfeldt. The Hurricanes senior ace left-hander pitched 7.2 innings, allowed two runs, no walks and struck out nine for his third win of the season. Frankie Bartow pitched the final 1.1 innings for his third save of the season.

Single runs in the first and fifth and two in the third were the Hurricanes scoring. Michael Burns and Danny Reyes each had two hits and an RBI for Miami in the victory.

UM had to rally twice to win game two of the series. The Hurricanes plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Bethune-Cookman runs in the top of the seventh and eighth gave the Wildcats an 8-7 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth. The two-run ninth won it for Miami.

A Reyes double down the left field line drove in Romy Gonzalez to tie the game. A single by Freshman Dylan Cloonan drove in Burns with the game winner.

Gonzalez had three hits and three RBIs for the Hurricanes. Freshman catcher Isaac Quinones continued to impress with three hits and four RBIs for Miami. Cooper Hammond got the win in relief.

Miami appeared to be cruising in the final game of the series. After falling behind 4-0, the Hurricanes had a seven-run second and four-run third to take an 11-4 lead.

Miami Starter Andrew Cabezas was not around long enough to be the pitcher of record with the lead. He allowed five hits and four runs, three earned in just 1.1 innings.

The bullpen could not hold the lead. Bethune-Cookman rallied with four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the eight to tie the game. Michael Mediavilla got shelled once again. The southpaw allowed four runs in just 0.2 of an inning. Jeremy Cook allowed two more runs after replacing him.

Gonzalez single in the bottom of the ninth drove in Freddie Zamora with the game winner. With the sweep, Miami is now 21-25 on the season. The Hurricanes have eight regular-season games remaining.

Miami hosts Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday and Stetson a week from Tuesday in their final midweek games of the season. Both of those games are in Coral Gables. Miami travels to Blacksburg this weekend and hosts Boston College next weekend.
