On the list of Power Five Head Coaches Richt is ranked 17th. The lists were written by different writers so some coaches are higher or lower depending on the list. Riley is only 15th on the Power Five list, despite being in the top eight on the tier list.

Ten of the coaches on the Power Five list ahead of Richt has at least a playoff appearance (or in Chip Kelly’s case a National Championship game appearance before the playoff was started). That’s a big thing over the Hurricanes’ boss. That leaves six other coaches on the list ahead of Richt.

Tom Fornelli wrote the list of the Power Five schools. His analysis of Richt was:

"“Miami fans have to be happy with the way the first two years have gone under Richt. After a 9-4 start in 2016, the Canes went 10-3 last year and won their first ACC Coastal title in the process. 2017 rank: 15 (-2)”"

The ranking following the analysis was last year’s ranking (15) and how far he fell from that (two spots).

Kansas State’s Bill Snyder has a much longer resume. Snyder has led Kansas State for 26 years in two different stints. He has a .656 career winning percentage.

The other coaches on the Power Five list ahead of Richt without a playoff appearance are Florida’s Dan Mullen, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, TCU’s Gary Patterson, Stanford’s David Shaw and Franklin.

None of those coaches have led their teams to more major bowl games than Richt has. Shaw has equaled Richt Major Bowl appearances with four in a short time span. He also has a .768 winning percentage to Richt’s .739.
