The Miami Hurricanes have a tougher than usual season opener in 2018. They travel to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas to face LSU. It’s part of a moderately tough non-conference schedule for Miami in 2018.

In two separate articles, Athlon Sports ranked the ACC teams non-conference schedules and previewed the Miami Hurricanes schedule game by game. We’ve extracted just their non-conference previews for this article.

This season the Hurricanes non-conference schedule is somewhat difficult. In addition to the game against LSU, Miami will travel to Group of Five Toledo and hosts FCS Savannah State and Florida International. The LSU game will be played on September 2, the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend.

The Toledo and LSU games will pose a challenge. Miami should have no trouble with Savannah State and FIU. Athlon ranks the Miami Hurricanes’ non-conference schedule seventh in the ACC.

"7. Miami Sept. 2 vs. LSU (Arlington, Texas) Sept. 8 vs. Savannah State Sept. 15 at Toledo Sept. 22 vs. FIU “That season opener will essentially be a road game as LSU fans will take over AT&T Stadium. Butch Davis put FIU in a bowl game last year and then the Hurricanes will go to the Glass Bowl (Toledo) to play the defending MAC champs. Very few Power 5 schools would agree to play the Rockets on their home turf.”"

LSU is the Miami Hurricanes first season opener against a BCS team since 2014. They lost to Louisville 31-13 in the Cardinals ACC debut that season. The Hurricanes play Savannah State in the second game of the season.
