Miami Hurricanes get sweep at VaTech, winning streak at eight

Sunday’s game was the second extra-inning outing of the weekend. The Hurricanes began the series on Friday night with a 5-4 win in 12 innings to extend their winning streak to six games.  Three Hurricanes had multiple hit games. Romy Gonzalez had the game-winning single.

After falling behind 2-0 on a first-inning home run by the Hokies Sam Fragale, Miami rallied and led 4-2 going to the bottom of the ninth. A two-run single by Stevie Mangrum tied the game in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extras.

Danny Federman was outstanding in extra innings. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to get the win. Cooper Hammond got the last out for his fourth save.

Saturday’s game was a rout. Miami scored five in the top of the first inning. The Hokies answered with three to get within striking distance. The Hurricanes answered with two in the top of the second to extend the lead. They added two more in the fourth. Virginia Tech answered with one in the fifth to make it 9-4.

A seven-run Hurricanes seventh broke the game open in a 16-4 Miami victory. A ridiculous seven Miami Hurricanes had multiple hit games. Six had multiple RBIs and five scored multiple runs. Four had multiple runs scored and multiple RBIs.
