Miami basketball alum Lonnie Walker did exceptionally well in the speed drills at the NBA Combine recently held in Chicago. Walker finished in the top ten in all three of the speed drills.

The Miami basketball alum finished second in the shuttle run, third in the three quarter court sprint and ninth in lane agility time. Walker is projected to be selected at the end of the lottery to about 20th in the NBA Draft.

Walker finished the shuttle run in 2.86 seconds. That was only one-hundredth of a second behind Syracuse’s Tyus Battle who finished first. Walker had a time of 3.06 in the three quarter court sprint. Georgia Tech’s Josh Okogie finished first at 3.04 and Zhaire Smith of Texas Tech was second with a time of 3.05.

Walker had a time of 10.87 in the lane agility drill. Duke’s Grayson Allen won that easily with a time of 10.31. Nevada’s Caleb Martin had the second-best time at 10.43. The ACC once again proved its the best conference by winning all three agility drills and have multiple players finish in the top ten.

His success in the speed and agility drills shows Walker is recovered from the torn MCL he suffered last summer. Those numbers should help boost Walker’s draft slot next month. Walker did not perform as well in the leaping drills at the combine.

He finished 11th in the max vertical leap and 15th in the standing vertical leap. He had a 40-inch max vertical leap and 31.5″ in the standing vertical leap.
