The Miami baseball team begins the ACC Championships Tuesday night against Notre Dame in Durham, North Carolina. The Hurricanes are the tournament’s seventh seed while Notre Dame is 11th.

Miami baseball won two of three from Notre Dame in the opening series of their ACC Schedule in early March. The Hurricanes shut out the Fighting Irish in back to back games to begin the series. Notre Dame avoided the sweep with a victory in the final game of the series.

Miami enters the tournament as the hottest team in the country. The Hurricanes have won ten straight to get back on the NCAA Tournament’s precarious bubble.

Miami will likely have to advance to the ACC Championship Game to even have a chance to get back in the discussion. A victory in the Championship game would earn them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Hurricanes entered last season’s ACC Tournament in a similar predicament. Miami was 29-26 in the 2017 regular season. They won their pool to advance to the semifinals. They won the pool with victories over 10th seed Georgia Tech and third seed Wake Forest.

A loss to North Carolina greatly diminished their chances for an NCAA Tournament bid. With a final record of 31-27, Miami missed the NCAA Tournament.

The Miami baseball team’s omission from the NCAA Tournament was their first one since 1972. The 44-year streak of making the NCAA Tournament was a record for any sport.
