Richards was Miami’s top receiving threat entering the 2017 season. He set a Miami Hurricanes Freshman record with 934 receiving yards in 2016. Richards finished 439 yards as a Sophomore in seven games.

Herndon was second on Miami in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns in 2017. His absence might have had the biggest impact. The dropoff in skill level and production from Herndon to his backups was greater than Walton and Richards’ loss.

Michael Irvin II finished 2017 with nine receptions for 78 yards He only had four receptions for 22 yards starting the final two games of the season against Clemson and Wisconsin. Brian Polendey did not record a reception.

The Miami Hurricanes 10-0 start in basketball was their best start since the 2007-08 team started 12-0. The wins included a victory at Minnesota in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge and a victory at Hawaii in the Diamond Head Classic.

Miami began the season 13th in AP Preseason Poll and 12th in the USA Today Coaches poll. Like the football team, injuries took their toll. Freshman Lonnie Walker struggled for most of the first half of the season as he recovered from an MCL tear over the summer.

The Hurricanes lost another key player after playing Florida State. Bruce Brown suffered a foot injury that cost him the final 13 games of the season. The Hurricanes much-anticipated backcourt never really got a chance to jell together.
