The illustrious career of Miami baseball coach Jim Morris likely came to an end with a 7-1 loss to Clemson in the ACC Tournament. The Hurricanes lost an opportunity to advance to the ACC Semifinals with a victory.

The Miami baseball team had won two out of three earlier this season at Clemson. After the Hurricanes tied the game at one with a run in the top of the fourth, a six-run Clemson bottom of the sixth put the game away.

Miami had a miracle rally at Clemson earlier this season. Down 11-3 entering the ninth inning, the Hurricanes scored eight runs to send the game to extra innings. They won it in the 12th with a run to win 12-11. There was no miracle rally this time.

A Drew Wharton home run off of Jeb Bargfeldt put Clemson ahead 2-1. That proved to be the game-winning hit. A pair of RBI singles by catcher Drew Wilkie and first baseman Seth Beer pushed the lead to 4-1.

Chris Williams’ three-run home run stretched the lead to the final score of 7-1. It was Williams third home run of the season against Miami. The other two were grand slams.

Clemson’s big bats came through against the Hurricanes all season. In their fourth meeting, the Tigers six-run sixth was their fourth inning of the season against the Miami baseball team with four runs or more.

Jeb Bargfeldt pitched much better than his numbers show. He left the game having allowed two runs.
