Richt can also use the Super Bowl as a selling point. Former Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Philip Dorsett became the 62nd UM football alum to play in a Super Bowl this past season. Only Tennessee can match that. Vols alum Derek Barnett played with the Eagles in February.

Miami has the lead with the most Super Bowl appearances. Miami players have made 119 appearances in the Super Bowl. Defensive end Ted Hendricks has won the most. He played on the Colts Super Bowl V Champions and twice won titles with the Oakland Raiders.

  • This gives Richt one more advantage with recruits. Miami will be the only Power Five school in the country that will see a Superbowl being played in their home stadium on a rotational basis.

Add in the college football playoff and Orange Bowl and Miami players will get a chance to feel what it’s like in a big event atmosphere in their own home games.

Some fans of other teams have stated the University of South Florida is an equivalent. That’s erroneous. Raymond James Stadium is not part of the rotation. Tampa is hosting the Super Bowl in 2021. Atlanta hosts the 2019 game and Hard Rock Stadium gets the game in 2020 for the NFL’s 100th season.

The Los Angeles stadium being build gets the game in 2021, followed by Glendale, Arizona and New Orleans. The rotational basis is scheduled to begin after that. The four predetermined sites will rotate with an occasional outsider getting game.
