Entering just his third season leading the Miami football program, Mark Richt is unquestionably the best FBS Head Coach Florida. The Head Coaches of the other six Florida FBS schools have a combined nine seasons leading their programs.

Richt has done an exceptional job rebuilding the Miami football program. The Hurricanes 19-7 record over the last two seasons is their best since having back to back 9-3 seasons in 2003 and 2004.

Richt enters the 2018 season with a 164-58 record in 17 seasons as a collegiate Head Coach. He was 145-51 at Georgia before coming to Miami. Richt had by far the best credentials of any of the three Power Five Football programs in Florida at the time of their hiring.

The Miami football team’s two biggest rivals Florida and Florida State just hired new Head Coaches after what can be called disastrous seasons by their standards. The teams met last season with uncharacteristic losing records.

Florida finished 4-7 and fired Head Coach Jim McElwain halfway through the season. Florida State went 7-6, its worst season in ten years. Former Miami football Coach Randy Shannon took over for the final four games of the season for Florida. The Gators were1-3 under the former Hurricanes linebacker.

Head Coach Jimbo Fisher left for Texas A&M before the season ended. Florida State played its final two games under defensive line coach Odell Haggins.

After beating Florida the Seminoles had to play and win a makeup game against Louisiana-Monroe just to get bowl eligible. A win over Southern Mississippi in the Independence Bowl gave FSU its 41st straight winning season.
