The impending four-game suspension of New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman should benefit former Miami football players Philip Dorsett and Braxton Berrios. Edelman is facing the suspension for allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs.
Dorsett is entering his fourth season in the NFL and his second in New England. Berrios was drafted in the sixth round by the Patriots after leading the Miami football team in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and trying for the team lead in total touchdowns.
Both Berrios and Dorsett are currently on the Patriots roster. They were teammates with the Miami Hurricanes in 2014. Dorsett led the Miami football team in receiving yards, yards per reception, and receiving touchdowns that season. Dorsett was a Senior and Berrios a Freshman.
Berrios had a solid Freshman season at Miami. He finished 2014 with 21 receptions for 232 yards with an 11.0 yards per reception average and three touchdowns. He regressed as a Sophomore and Junior stuck behind Stacy Coley and then Ahmmon Richards. Berrios exploded during his Senior season in 2017.
Berrios surpassed his totals for his entire collegiate career as a Senior last season. He finished 2017 with 55 receptions for 679 yards, a12.3 yards per reception average and nine touchdowns.
Dorsett’s NFL career has been slow developing. He had 12 receptions for 194 yards without a touchdown last season. It might have been difficult for him to learn the Patriots way of doing things and the Josh McDaniels playbook during his first season in New England.
