After a Sophomore slump and missing the last 13 games of the Miami basketball season, guard Bruce Brown’s draft outlook has dropped significantly. The Boston native is projected to be selected in the late first to middle of the second round of the NBA Draft.

Brown forming a stellar backcourt for the Miami basketball team with Freshman Lonnie Walker never really materialized. Walker struggled early in the season coming back from a torn MCL suffered last July. Walker is expected to be drafted between 10th and 20th overall in the first round.

Brown regressed as a Sophomore in the 19 games he played. He was expected to be the leader of the Miami basketball team this past season and co-star with Walker.

Brown averaged 11.8 points per game, 3.2 assists and 5.6 rebounds as a Freshman. He put up 11.4 PPG, 4.0 APG and 7.1 RPG as a Sophomore. He led Miami in assists and rebounds.

Although his rebounds and assists were up from the 2016-17 season, it was his shooting and scoring that have NBA scouts and executives concerned. Brown shot 45.9 percent from the floor, 34.7 percent on three-point attempts and 74.4 percent from the free throw line as a Freshman.

Those numbers dropped to 41.5 percent from the floor, 26.7 percent on threes and 61.5 from the line as a Sophomore. Scouts will be looking closely at his shooting during workouts before the draft. Brown has worked out for several teams thus far. Some teams are more interested than others.
