Is Miami Hurricanes DC Manny Diaz getting slighted as HC Candidate?
Fornelli’s most recent list has Navy Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo fifth, Troy Head Coach Neal Brown fourth, Ohio State and former Miami Defensive Coordinator Greg Schiano third, Memphis Head Coach Mike Norvell second and Florida Atlantic Head Coach Lane Kiffin first.
Schiano ran the Hurricanes defense for two seasons under Butch Davis in 1999 and 2000. He left Miami after the 2000 season to become the Head Coach at Rutgers.
It was speculated at the time if Davis had taken the Cleveland Browns Head Coaching job before Schiano left then he might have succeeded Davis as the Miami Head Coach.

Schiano left Rutgers to become the Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons. He has been the Buckeyes Defensive Coordinator since 2016.
Ohio State’s Defense finished 15th in the Nation last season allowing 19.0 PPG. The Buckeyes were tenth in the nation in sacks getting 3.21 per game. They played one more game than Miami did and finished with one more sack at 45 for the season.
Ohio State wasn’t far behind the Hurricanes in tackles for loss either. They averaged 8.1 per game for a total of 114.
