Five players on the current Miami football roster had fathers who also wore the green and orange.  Four of the five fathers either won national championships at Miami or played in the NFL. Two of the five accomplished both.

The most prominent father-son tandem currently with tied to the Miami football present and past are Al Blades Senior and Junior. Al Blades Sr was a part of Butch Davis tenure at Miami that returned the football program to one of the most prominent in the nation. He earned All-Big East as a Senior during the 2000 season.

Blades went undrafted coming out of Miami. He spent two seasons trying to make the roster of the San Francisco 49ers. Sadly on the night of his 26th birthday, Al Sr. would die in a car accident. He would never live to see his son join the Miami Hurricanes just as he and his brothers before him did.

Al Senior’s older brothers Bennie and Brian were stars at Miami in the 1980’s. They would help raise Al Jr. Al. Jr will make his Miami football debut this fall.

Al Blades Jr is a highly ranked recruit in the Miami Class of 2018. He is the 97th best player in the country, the 12th best cornerback and 21st best player in the State of Florida entering college this fall.

Some of the player’s fathers were Miami legends. Others were key parts of very successful teams. They all contributed to the legend of Miami football.
