Michael Irvin Senior is one of the most prominent and vocal players in Miami history. He was one of the Hurricanes that instituted the swagger of the 1980s that Miami became synonymous with.
Irvin holds the Miami receiving touchdown record for a career 31 years after he left. He is third in career receiving yards and fifth in receptions.
The Landry Hat
Irvin held all three records when he left Miami. The Pro Football Hall of Famer’s Freshmen receiving yardage record stood for 31 years until it was broken by Ahmmon Richards in 2016.
Irvin’s son Michael Irvin II has been on the Miami football roster for the past two seasons. As he enters his Junior season, he has not been nearly as productive as his father.
After not playing much as a Freshman, Irvin recorded nine receptions for 78 yards last season. He started the final two games after Christopher Herndon IV was lost for the year with a torn MCL.
The younger Irvin had his best game in the ACC Championship against Clemson with three receptions for 18 yards. He recorded one reception for four yards in the Orange Bowl loss to Wisconsin. With blue-chip recruits Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory coming in at tight end this fall, Irvin might find it difficult to get on the field.
