With the Orange Bowl being a College Football Playoff semifinal game this year, there is not a direct bowl tie-in for the ACC in the New Year’s Six games. The assumption and projections from virtually every website are that Clemson will win its fourth consecutive ACC Championship and receive their fourth straight bid to the playoff.

The Peach Bowl is scheduled for December 29 at Noon ET on ESPN. The game is played at the Mercedes Benz Dome in Atlanta. That’s not to be confused with the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans where the Sugar Bowl is played.

  • The Peach Bowl is a day earlier than the Orange Bowl was last season. It’s also not in the Orange Bowl’s coveted prime time slot.

The Sentinel has Miami playing against Central Florida. College Football News has the Hurricanes facing Michigan State. USA Today has the Hurricanes playing Penn State.

The Nittany Lions are the only one of the three projected Miami opponents to have played in a New Years Six game last season. They defeated Washington 35-28 in the Cotton Bowl last season.

USA Today was the only one of those three sites that explained their reasoning behind their bowl selections. The Peach Bowl does not have tie-ins. Both teams would be at-large selections.

"“The first New Year’s Six game pits two at-large bids. This projection picks Miami as the second-place team from the ACC, meaning the Hurricanes put together a great regular season but fall to Clemson in the conference title game. Penn State would be the third Big Ten team in a high-profile bowl, following Wisconsin and Ohio State.”"
