Defining an exciting player in any sport is very subjective. There are many factors that have to be considered. As Mark Richt continues to upgrade the talent in the Miami football program, the debate over the most exciting player will probably be more hotly debated.

Several players would have to be on a not so short list of the most exciting player on the Miami football roster. Heading into the 2018 season, the Miami defense has gotten most of the attention.

Four different Miami football players on the defensive side of the ball have gotten All-America mention from various website and media outlets. No one on the Miami football roster had more sacks the last two seasons than Joe Jackson’s combined 14. He also added 82 tackles and 21 tackles for loss.

There are few things that get Hard Rock Stadium more fired up than pressure on the quarterback. The most obvious exception is the turnover chain.

NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk has Jackson being selected fifth overall in next year’s NFL Draft. He would be the fourth lineman projected to be taken in the top five. Jackson’s projection is before three of the four Clemson star defensive linemen. That’s high praise.

Miami’s star linebacking core of Shaq Quarterman, Michael Pinckney and Zach McCloud are entering their third consecutive season as starters together. Quarterman leads the Miami defense with 167 combined tackles over the last two seasons. He has also combined for 17 tackles for loss and six sacks in 2016 and ’17.
