ESPN’s choice was Senior Safety and Miami’s 2017 team MVP, Jaquan Johnson. The most exciting player can be different for everyone. We all have a different idea of what we find exciting. No one embodied the turnover chain more last season than Johnson. That seemed to be ESPN’s reasoning. Adam Rittenberg wrote up the summary.

"“Johnson spent a lot of time either wearing the Turnover Chain or doing things to allow others to wear it in 2017. He had four interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries to go along with a team-leading 96 tackles. The All-America candidate returns to lead a Miami defense featuring playmakers at all three levels. — Rittenberg”"

In last year’s breakthrough season there were many unforgettable moments. With the Hurricanes three best offensive players entering the season all out for the last two games, it created opportunities elsewhere.

No one came out of the blue more than Darrell Langham in October. Langham scored the game-winning touchdown with six seconds remaining to defeat Florida State. That was his only catch of the game. He only played one other snap against the Seminoles.

A week later, Langham had five receptions for 100 yards against Georgia Tech. None were bigger than an acrobatic catch on fourth and 10 to keep the game-winning driving alive.

Defensive end Jonathan Garvin and cornerback Trajan Bandy had their own electrifying plays last season. Bandy had a pick-six just before halftime to extend the lead against Notre Dame. Garvin had strip sacks against the Virginia Tech and the Fighting Irish.
