Miami Hurricanes Travis Homer one of ACC’s best big play RBs
Homer did not rank in the top ten in either yards per route run or drop rate. Miami might have used Homer more often as a check down receiver. He was frequently praised as a blocker last season by Head Coach Mark Richt. The metrics on Homer’s blocking favor that.
Homer finished tenth among ACC running backs in pass blocking efficiency. The definition on how to measure a running back’s success as a blocker according to PFF is “Pass Blocking Efficiency rating measures pressure allowed on a per-snap basis with weighting toward sacks allowed.”

It is tough for any running back to be able to continuously be a threat in the passing game by running routes and as a blocker. Homer was one of Miami’s best all-around players last season. Before becoming the starting running back Homer was arguably their best coverage player on special teams.
In 2018, Homer will have more help in the backfield. It will give Richt and Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown more formation options on offense.
They can split Homer’s 2017 backup DeeJay Dallas out wide. They might elect to do that with Homer as well.
Miami brings in five-star Freshman running back Lorenzo Lingard. He will get plenty of snaps as well. Richt could elect to use Homer, Lingard and Dallas in some formations. Two of the three is a strong possibility.
