Why did Lonnie Walker embarrass himself meeting Tim Duncan?
Lonnie Walker sent out a very cryptic Tweet about his first meeting with San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan. All Walker said in the Tweet was “I really just met Tim Duncan and I think I embarrassed myself 🤦🏾♂️😂”
There was no further information from the Twitter account of Lonnie Walker or anywhere else. It gave fans a chance to speculate on what could have happened to cause the former Miami basketball star to become embarrassed.
Did Walker use the South Park voice from the Iconic character of Timmy Burch? Did Duncan give Walker an icy stare after he told him a joke? There are many possibilities and the fans ran with the vagueness of the Lonnie Walker Tweet.
Walker was chosen 18th overall by San Antonio in the NBA Draft. He was the second highest draftee in Miami basketball history. He tied with Shane Larkin who was selected 18th in 2013. Larkin currently plays for the Boston Celtics.
Walker had been thinking about meeting Duncan before it happened. He discussed the potential of meeting Duncan with the San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT.
"“Oh I might do a couple back flips. Just might…Honestly I don’t know. I probably might play it cool like, ‘What’s up Tim Duncan? How’s it going?’ But then when I walk away, I’ll be like ‘I’m with Tim Duncan!’ I’ll call my dad right after. It’s going to be exciting.”"
Walker will make his professional debut with the Spurs summer league on Monday, July 2 in Las Vegas against the Utah Jazz. Miami alum Trey McKinney-Jones is Walker’s teammate at least in Las Vegas.
Walker was awed by the nameplates in the Spurs locker room. He explained inaugural trip into the Spurs locker room to KSAT.
"“Tony Parker sits right there.’ I hope Tony’s not mad at me, but I sat in his chair. I sat on Manu Ginobili’s chair and I felt like I was Manu Ginobili, but it’s surreal to me.”"
No one supports Walker more than his hometown of Reading, PA. He chose to stay home in high school when he could have played for almost any prep school. Oak Hill Academy in Virginia is said to have wanted Walker.
He became a hero in what many consider to be one of the bleakest cities in the United States. Walker won a State Championship for Redding. It was there that the Tweet about South Park came from.
Another one of the best Tweets came from someone else named Tim Duncan. That person tweeted that Walker also met him before and did not embarrass himself. Walker could become a star off the court as much as on it in the NBA.
