Miami Hurricanes Freshman running back Camron Davis has enrolled for classes in summer session two. The report was according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald via the University of Miami.

Davis’ enrollment means that all members of the Miami Hurricanes Class of 2018 are now enrolled in school. The Hurricanes offensive backfield is now fully loaded.

The Miami Hurricanes struggled with depth at running back in 2017. The additions of four-star Davis and five-star running back Lorenzo Lingard to go with returnees Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas give Head Coach Mark Richt and Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown more options this season.

Davis comes to the Miami Hurricanes from Carol City High School. He was ranked the 173rd best player in the Class of 2018, the seventh-best running back and the 29th best player in Florida according to 247Sports.Com.

The Hurricanes had to scramble last season when starting running back Mark Walton was lost for the season after the Hurricanes win over Florida State in the fourth game of 2017. Dallas was switched to running back during the following week of practice.

Both Homer and Dallas stepped up and played exceptionally well the rest of the 2017 season. Homer ran for 966 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 18 passes for 219 yards and another touchdown. That was despite not starting until the fifth game of the season.

Homer is not shying away from the Hurricanes adding more talent at running back. He spoke to 247’s Inside the U in May about Davis’ impending arrival.

"“Always looking forward to more competition in the running back room.”"

Dallas was the Miami Hurricanes most versatile player in 2017. He ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Dallas also caught four passes for another 92 yards. He was also Miami’s “quarterback” in the Wildcat.

Davis seems to be the type of all-around back Mark Richt likes in his system. If you cant block, Richt won’t play you. The Orlando Sentinel summarized Davis in December.

"Davis possesses a nice combination of power and speed. He isn’t afraid to run inside and get the tough yardage in order to set up big runs later in the game. Davis is also a solid pass catcher.”"

At 5’9 190 pounds the question is can Davis take a pounding that the inside runs create. Davis might have to add some weight before he can get consistent snaps. Inside runs take a toll on a player’s body. It’s why running backs have the shortest careers in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see how the Hurricanes choose to use Davis this season. He is currently fourth on the depth chart. Homer, Dallas and Lingard are comfortably ahead of Davis. Richt likes and almost expects his recruits to enroll early.

Defensive tackle Jon Ford did not enroll until August last year. He was playing catch up the rest of the season. Homer could decide to turn pro after this season.

Redshirting Davis seems to be the way to go unless he plays exceptionally well in training camp and gives the staff no choice but to get him on the field. Otherwise letting Davis take a year to learn and grasp the offensive should help his development.
