With the regularly scheduled games completed six, Miami Basketball alums will begin the NBA Summer League tournament that commences on Wednesday. Three UM alums will begin tournament play on Wednesday and three on Thursday.

The first Miami basketball alum to begin tournament play on Wednesday is Kamari Murphy with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets play at 6 PM ET on ESPN2. Bruce Brown and the Detroit Pistons and Rion Brown and the Golden State Warriors also begin Tournament play on Wednesday night.

Detroit plays the Minnesota Timberwolves at 8 PM ET, also on ESPN2. Golden State will face the Charlotte Hornets on NBATV at 10:30 ET. The Nets and Pistons are playing at Cox Pavillon. The Warriors will play at UNLV’s home arena, the Thomas and Mack Center.

Davon Reed has been outstanding for the Phoenix Suns in the summer league. He is playing with Phoenix for the second straight summer. After being a second-round draft pick by the Suns in 2017, he played 21 games with them during the 2017-18 season. Reed also played 12 games with the Suns G-League team.

Reed and the Suns begin tournament play against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night at 6:30 ET at the Thomas and Mack Center on ESPN2.

Lonnie Walker and Trey McKinney-Jones begin their Summer League Tournament competition with the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. San Antonio plays at the Cox Pavillon against the Milwaukee Bucks at 8:30 PM ET on NBATV.

Murphy has had a serviceable summer league for Brooklyn. He probably needed to make more of an impact to impress the Nets front office.

Murphy played in all 50 games with the Long Island Nets this past season, Brooklyn’s G-League team. The 6’8 power forward is averaging six points and 5.3 rebounds through Brooklyn’s first three summer league games.

Bruce Brown is playing in his first summer league with the Pistons after being selected 42nd overall by Detroit in last month’s NBA Draft. Brown has continued to play with an all-around game that he displayed on the Miami basketball team. He is averaging 11.0 PPG and 6.3 RPG through the Pistons first three games in Las Vegas.

Like many of the rookies, Brown has struggled shooting the ball. He has made just 29 percent of his field goal attempts.

Rion Brown has only played in two Summer League games for the Warriors. He has averaged just 10.5 minutes per game. Brown has scored just three points in the two games with six rebounds, and one assist, one steal and one block. The former Miami guard has missed all seven of his field goal attempts.

He will have a hard time making the Warriors roster if he gets an invite this fall. Brown averaged 12.5 PPG, 1.3 SPG and made 40.6 percent of his three-point attempts with Dijon in the French League last season.
