Gaby Sanchez 2011

Sanchez’s only All-Star appearance came in 2011 during second full major league season with the Marlins. He earned his spot on the National League team by hitting .293 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs in 91 games. In the only All-Star at-bat of his career, Sanchez popped out as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sanchez could not keep up his all-star pace in the second half. He hit .225 with six home runs and 28 RBIs in 68 games. Sanchez was traded to Pittsburgh during the 2012 season. Two years he was out of Major League Baseball.

There are currently seven major league players from Miami. The most likely to represent the Hurricanes next in the All-Star Game are the three current active players that have already appeared, Alonso, Braun and Grandal.

Jon Jay has had a solid if not spectacular Major League career. He is a .287 lifetime hitter in his ninth season. This could be Jay’s last season. He is hitting .223 for the Arizona Diamondbacks at the All-Star break.

Danny Valencia has also had a solid major league career. Like Jay, he is a nine year Major League veteran that does not have an All-Star appearance.

The other Miami baseball alum to watch could be Zack Collins. Collins is a catcher for the Chicago White Sox AA team the Birmingham Barons. He won the AA Home-run Derby last month.
