South Dade High School in Homestead Class of 2020 players, Guard Jonathan Denis and defensive backs Keshawn Washington and Jaiden Francois verbally committed to the Miami Football program on Friday at the Hurricanes Paradise Camp.

Denis is a three-star offensive guard. Washington and Francois are the only two players out of the 11 commits in the 2020 Miami football recruiting class that have yet to be rated. Both players are listed as safeties by the 247 Sports Composite rankings. Miami currently has the top-ranked Class for 2020.

That top ranking could easily change. The Hurricanes have had the top-ranked recruiting class at times during the last two recruiting cycles. The 2018 Miami football recruiting class finished eighth. The 2019 Miami recruiting class has had a precipitous fall to 19th after previously holding the top ranking nationally.

Denis is the first offensive lineman in the Miami football class for 2020. Washington and Francois are the first safeties for 2020 and the second and third defensive backs to commit to Miami. Denis is the 314th ranked player overall in the class of 2020, the 12th best guard and 51st ranked player in the state of Florida.

  • Henry Gray who was previously the only defensive back verbally committed to the Hurricanes is the top-ranked Miami football commit for 2020.

Gray is a four-star cornerback from Miami Central in Hollywood, Florida. He is the 56th ranked player in the Class of 2020, the sixth best cornerback and eighth-ranked player in Florida.

Miami currently has a trio of South Dade players on its roster. Senior Cornerback Jhavonte Dean and Freshmen, linebacker Patrick Joyner and cornerback D.J. Ivey all played football for the Buccaneers.

Joyner and Ivey should be around for their Senior seasons if Denis, Francois and Washington honor their commitment. Anything can happen between now and the nearly two and a half years to the early signing period.

Having the verbal commitments helps build the class. Mark Richt and his staff can sell the players are being part of what is currently the best recruiting class for 2020. They can also sell the recruits on being part of something that is bigger than themselves.

With two seasons between now and when this class puts their signature on a letter of intent, a lot can happen from the Miami football team’s end as well. If Richt continues to lead the Hurricanes in towards rejoining the elite programs nationally these classes will begin to build on themselves.

Next. Miami football staff dominates ACC recruiter rankings. dark

That will lead to the players recruiting Miami as much as Richt and his staff recruiting the players. In its third year, the Paradise Camp has been a resounding success.
