Texas’ victory over USC in the Rose Bowl was basically a home game for the Trojans. Another was a September victory at Ohio State. The Longhorns won both of those games by three points.

Texas had two regular season conference games against ranked teams in 2005. They defeated number 24 Colorado 42-17 and number 10 Texas Tech 52-17.

Another one of the National experts who cover college football that proclaimed the 2001 Miami football team as the best ever is former Alabama quarterback and current ESPN and ABC College Football analyst Greg McElroy. McElroy was the analyst for the Miami-Florida State game last season.

The 2001 Miami football team played two conference games against ranked teams. Those were the wins over Virginia Tech and Syracuse.

Miami also had nonconference games against ranked opponents Florida State and Washington. The Hurricanes only close game in 2001 against a ranked team that season was against the Hokies.

Many point to Miami’s struggles at Boston College in 2001. The Hurricanes needed a miraculous interception off a ricochet by defensive lineman Matt Walters.

The interception was followed by one of the most memorable returns in Miami football history by Ed Reed. Reed ripped the ball out of Walter’s hands and took it the length of the field to cement the Hurricanes victory.
