ESPN College Football Analysts Andre Ware and Rod Gilmore became the latest announcers to proclaim the 2001 Miami football team the best National Champions since the beginning of the BCS era. Texas 2005 Champions were ranked as the top team by ESPN Analytics.

Most sports fans like to claim that ESPN has a bias for teams other than their own or against the teams that they root for. Ware and Gilmore are at the least the fourth and fifth ESPN commentators and/or writers that have given the 2001 Miami football National Champions the mythical title of the best team since 1998.

The original article last week proclaiming Texas as the best National Championship team of the BCS and College Football Playoff era created a firestorm on national talk shows, sports news shows and social media.

A lot of Miami Hurricanes fans cried foul. The Outpouring of support for the 2001 Miami football team should put to rest any claims of bias against the Hurricanes. Ware was very strong with his words of support. Gilmore was too, but a bit more tempered.

Ware could easily have chosen Texas. He grew up about 215 miles from Austin and 50 miles from Vince Young’s hometown of Houston in Galveston, Texas on the Gulf of Mexico.

As to be expected these analysts and networks cannot win. Someone will always claim a bias for or against a team, conference, region or however the spin works in their favor when there is an opinion they don’t like. One Texas fan claimed a bias against the Big XII.

Espn anchor Jen Lada asked Ware about the proclamation of Texas as the mythical title of the best national champions from 1998 through 2017.

"“The 2005 Texas Longhorns have been named the best (national championship) team of the last 20 years. Andre (are) you buying that?”"

Ware is a Houston guy that has been an analyst on SEC games for ESPN since 2014. He has been the radio analyst on Houston Texans games since 2002.
