2001 Miami football team gets more support from ESPN analysts
Ware’s dream was to go to Texas. In 2014 Ware told then ESPN personalities Steve Weissman and Joe Schad who now covers the Dolphins for the Palm Beach Post that he wanted to go to play for the Longhorns.
"“I was going to Texas. All they had to do was lie to me and tell me I was going to play quarterback once I got there. Thank goodness they told me the truth [that] they were going to move me to defense”"
Instead of playing college football for Texas, Ware went to Houston to play quarterback with the guarantee that the Cougars would not change him to defense.

Under College Football Hall of Famer and legendary Head Coach, Jack Pardee, Ware set what was at the time the college football record of 4,699 passing yards in a season in 1989.
Ware won the 1989 Heisman Trophy in that record-setting season. He was also the first-team All-American quarterback in 1989. Ware’s 1989 record-setting season has since been surpassed four times, including in four seasons by Houston Cougars quarterbacks. First by David Klingler and three times by Case Keenum.
Like any sensible and unbiased, objective analyst, Ware chose the 2001 Miami Hurricanes as his best national champions of the last 21 years. Ware had a strong response to Lada’s question if he was buying Texas as the best national champion since 1998.
"“No, not at all Jen (Lada) I’m not buying it what so ever. I’m going ’01 Miami Hurricanes. You go back and look at that (2002 Rose Bowl versus Nebraska in BCS National Championship) game, you’ve got a bunch of first-round picks (from Miami). Eleven of them from that year on the field. Guys that were unbelieveable in talent. You go back and look at that Texas team only one guy I remember Vince Young…There are a lot of Hurricanes I remember though.”"
Ware went on to name Miami football legends from the 2001 team wide receiver Andre Johnson and tight end Jeremy Shockey. Johnson and Shockey were memorable because they both found the end zone in the 2002 Rose Bowl.
