Athlon Sports recently posted an entire article with thoughts made anonymously by ACC Coaches about their peers’ teams. The discussion of the Miami football team centered around Mark Richt, quarterback play and Manny Diaz and the defense.

The thoughts on the Miami football team were about if Malik Rosier can elevate the team with his play at quarterback or if N’Kosi Perry is the direction to go at the position and the job that Mark Richt and Manny Diaz have done in rebuilding the Hurricanes.

In just two seasons and three recruiting classes, Mark Richt has returned the Miami football program among the nation’s elite teams. The Hurricanes number eight ranking to begin 2018 is their highest since they had the same ranking to begin the 2005 season.

Plenty of question marks are swirling in the wind as the Miami football program gets ready for the season with training camp commencing on Saturday. The comments ranged from praise for the job Richt has done in s short period of time to criticism of the offense.

The coaches that were quoted by Athlon Sports discussed how Malik Rosier‘s play impacts the rest of the Miami football team if Rosier or N’Kosi Perry should start at quarterback, what Richt has done in a short period of time, how close Miami is to winning the ACC and Manny Diaz’s impact on the defense.

Ther first comments that were made focused on Rosier. Canes Warning has frequent examined Miami’s three-game losing streak to end 2017 coinciding with Rosier’s downfall last season. Rosier had a 44.9 completion percentage, three touchdowns, five interceptions and just 500 yards passing over the last three games of 2017.

He did run for 91 yards over the last three games, but it came on 31 carries. He did not reach the end zone. Rosier ran for five touchdowns last season. His 31 total touchdowns set a Miami season record.

"“That team goes how QB Malik Rosier goes. When he’s on, they can play with anyone. When he’s struggling, they struggle. Those last three games there were ugly. I can definitely see why it’s an open competition now. A lot of it is accuracy. He’s one of those guys that needs to stay in the pocket just a little bit longer and the accuracy will improve. But that’s a feel thing. Most kids, when they know the open competition is on them, own it and get better.”"

The last sentence in that quote is the key. Richt has been saying all offseason that Rosier looked better this spring. Richt said that Rosier’s growth was attributed to the increased competition. Rosier does better when he is pushed.
